October 2024 - Soils4Africa Project completed trainings for over 300 soil professionals for its pan-Africa field campaign
Important milestone for Soils4Africa project achieved: With much effort, Soils4Africa has achieved the mission of training over 300 professionals in a wide range of activities for soil survey and soil sample collection: navigating to the sampling location, soil collection, labelling, observing soil characteristics, and shipment of the soil sample.
The capacity building component under Soils4Africa served over 60 institutions across 49 African countries. This essential work component allows the project to effectively collect soil samples across the African continent using standardized method, subsequently helping to build the pan-Africa Soil Information System (SIS). In 2021, the team led by IITA began developing protocols, tools, and methodologies (for details, access this link
https://www.soils4africa-h2020.eu/documents ) to assess soil quality of agricultural lands across Africa. In 2022, training started to build capacity for researchers, scientists, and extensionists in various public and private institutions across Africa on soil survey and sampling. With the completion of this task, we would like to send a big congratulation to the project consortium and all supporting partners!
